Scaffolding: Fundamentals for the Competent Person

Whenever any worker is permitted to work from scaffolding, OSHA requires that employers ensure scaffold-systems are evaluated and inspected by a competent person. Not only must the competent person understand the design, capacity and limitations of the systems being used, but also ensure that assembly and use are in accordance with 29 CFR 1926 Subpart L (which applies to both General industry and Construction). This course is intended for competent persons, as well as superintendents, supervisors, foremen, and safety personnel, to understand design and loading principles, assembly and use requirements, and responsibilities of the designated competent person(s).
