Respiratory Protection: Fundamentals and Fit-Testing

Did you know that most respiratory hazards are too small to be visible? Did you know that respirators can actually pose a risk to some workers with certain physiological or medical conditions? Many work-environments and activities necessitate the use of respiratory protection to protect workers from health hazards. Under these circumstances, OSHA requires employers to properly implement a respiratory protection program, including the selection of proper respirators, medical evaluations, fit-testing, and training. This workshop is designed to provide attendees with the knowledge to properly develop and implement a respiratory protection program. Topics include:
  • Respiratory health hazards
  • Types and performance of various types of respirators
  • OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134)
  • Medical evaluations
  • Fit-testing and seal-checks (incl. hands-on qualitative fit-testing)
  • Proper use, maintenance, storage, and disposal requirements
  • Training requirements
