HAZWOPER- 8-hour INITIAL Training
Does your facility have large quantities of hazardous materials that can potentially lead to a spill-incident, and create a reasonable possibility of employee exposure? Do you have an 8-hour training program to train these employees on how to identify and report a hazardous substance release, and protect themselves and others during the incident? OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard (29 CFR 1910.120) requires a minimum of 8-hours of initial operations-level training for any first-responder with primary responsibilities of containing the release, preventing further exposure, and protecting persons, property or the environment. This course is intended to supplement an employer’s internal HAZWOPER training program and provides 8-hours of initial training for workers who have incidental responsibilities involving spills and releases of hazardous substances. Topics include:
- Implementation of emergency response plans and incident
command systems
- Basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
- Overview of hazardous substances and risks associated with
an incident
- Potential outcomes of emergencies involving hazardous
substances
- Classification and identification of unknown materials
- Hazard and risk assessment techniques
- Selection and use of specialized personal protective
equipment
- Response strategies and tactics
- Decontamination of personnel and equipment
