Electrical I: Safety Essentials for Non-Electricians-Virtual

This virtual course is for non-electricians (e.g. safety personnel, supervisors, maintenance), and may be helpful to even the most seasoned electricians, to understand OSHA’s various “electrical” requirements and the National Fire Protection Association’s Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and provide an “intro” to electrical hazards, principles of design and installation, technical familiarity, and installation and use requirements. The goal of this course is to break through the technical and overwhelming nomenclature, provide a plain-language understanding of the various requirements, and help participants recognize electrical-hazards. Topics include:
  • Nature and hazards of electrical energy
  • Overview of relevant standards (e.g. OSHA, NFPA)
  • Protection of energized conductors
  • Wiring design and protection
  • Flexible cords and cables
  • Hazardous locations
  • Disconnecting means and working clearances
  • Overhead power-lines
  • Intro to Safe Electrical Work Practices and NFPA 70E

NOTE: This course does not meet requirements for the Minnesota Dept. of Labor and Industry (MN DLI) Codes and Licensing Division’s continuing education credits.
