HAZWOPER- 24-hour INITIAL Training

Do you have employees who may have some responsibility with responding to and carrying out work-activities to address the release or spill of hazardous materials? Does your facility have large quantities of hazardous materials that can potentially lead to a spill-incident, and create a reasonable possibility of employee exposure? Do you have a 3-day training program to train these employees on how to respond to, manage and clean-up a hazardous spill? OSHA’s HAZWOPER Standard (29 CFR 1910.120) requires a minimum of 24-hours of initial training for:
  •     On-Site Clean-Up Operations: On-site workers, and supervisors and managers directly responsible for on-site workers
  •     Treatment, Storage and Disposal (TSD) Facilities: Employees exposed to health hazards or hazardous substances
  •     Emergency Response Operations: Hazardous materials technicians, hazardous materials specialists, and on-scene incident commanders

This three-day course is intended to supplement an employer’s internal HAZWOPER training program, and provide 24-hours of initial training for workers exposed to hazardous materials and health hazards associated with releases and spills. Topics covered include:

  •     Implementation of emergency response plans and incident command systems
  •     Basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
  •     Classification and identification of unknown materials
  •     Hazard and risk assessment techniques,
  •     Field survey instrumentation and equipment
  •     Selection and use of specialized personal protective equipment
  •     Response strategies and tactics
  •     Decontamination of personnel and equipment

NOTE: The Minnesota Safety Council does not offer the HAZWOPER – 40-hour INITIAL Training.
